Joey Turcotte Goes Global
Joseph “Joey” Turcotte’s path at Hutchinson began with a simple goal: find a job he could balance with a full college courseload. It wasn’t long before our Hopkinton facility became a place to grow, explore and shape a long-term career.
Joey joined Hutchinson as an operator shortly after enrolling in an online bachelor’s program at UMass Lowell. With no prior manufacturing experience, he focused on observing processes, listening to experienced team members and showing up ready to contribute.
“My original boss was Nichodemus, and he really took me under his wing,” Joey says, referring to Inj/Comp APU Manager Nichodemus Tetteh. “After a month, he recommended me for the lead position, and I wanted to prove him right for what he saw in me.”
That support helped Joey move into Hutchinson’s Customer Service team, where he works directly with customers as an inside sales specialist while also taking on project management responsibilities.
“It’s been really good to gain so much trust from the company, just by showing that I want to be there and that I care about what we do,” he says.
This summer, Joey will continue his education at Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, through a UMass Lowell study-abroad program. He will take a global supply chain management class and a Korean language class, gaining perspectives he can apply back at Hutchinson.
“I could get a closer look at their philosophies and approach to operations over there,” he says. “It could be very beneficial for bringing that back to Hutchinson.”
Hutchinson is supporting Joey’s study-abroad experience through a leave/furlough, a gesture that has made a lasting impression.
At UMass Lowell, Joey is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus in management and marketing. His long-term goal is to grow in supply chain management, particularly in defense manufacturing, while finding purpose in supporting critical applications.
“Everybody wants to have work with purpose,” Joey says. “You don’t know what you’re going to fall in love with. Hutchinson was one of those applications I submitted and almost forgot about. And I stuck with Hutchinson. I couldn’t be more grateful.”
